To evaluate implantation techniques of both hard and foldable, iris claw IOLs. Evaluate postoperative visual acuity and quality of vision. Postoperative complications, iris reaction and crystalline lens clarity.

The study included 20 eyes of 18 patients. Two were bilateral. There were 4 males and 14 females. Ages ranged from 11- 34 (mean 24.5) years. Three eyes were pseudophakic. One eye was post Lasik. Fourteen hard and 4 foldable IOLs were implanted. Forceps enclavation was applied in 11 (55%) and needle in nine eyes (45%). Follow up ranged from 8-12 months.
Surgery was uneventful. Sutures were removed 10 days after surgery in hard PMMA IOLs. Two eyes (10%), had iris pigment dispersion 2 and 5 days postoperative, and both resolved within 10 days. One eye (5%) had traumatic IOL dislocation and was successfully repositioned. Postoperative best uncorrected visual acuity (BUCVA), was better than or equal to preoperative best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) in all cases. This showed significant visual improvement.
Iris claw IOLs are good solutions in moderate to high myopia unsuitable for laser vision correction, giving comparable results. They can be implanted in phakic, pseudophakic and aphakic eyes. Surgery needs considerable learning curve.
