to evaluate advisability and effectiveness of radiowave generator Surgitron (manufactured by Ellman International Inc., USA), applied in surgical treatment of strabismus.
The S.N. Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery Federal State Institution, Volgograd Branch
were compared treatment outcomes of 25 radiosurgical procedures, performed with Surgitron device, and 29 conventional blade surgeries. Surgitron radiowave procedures were performed via electrode A8 in two operating modes: 28W incision mode (15 patients) and 25W incision+coagulation mode (10 patients).
in incision mode hemorrhage rate decreased by 9%. In conventional blade surgery bleeding was registered in 35% of cases, while during Surgitron powered procedures in 26% of cases. Intra-method difference was statistically relevant (t>2,0, p<0,05). In incision+coagulation mode no bleeding was observed, which enabled reducing surgical duration by - 3ḟ0,5 min (p<0,05).
application of radiowave generator Surgitron in surgical treatment of strabismus is highly advisable in order to eliminate risk of hemorrhagic complications and to reduce duration of surgical operation.
