Albert Schweitzer’s biography reads quite complex: He was priest, pacifist, organist, philosopher and - doctor. His hospital in the African jungle still shows Schweitzer’s deep affection and incredible interest in humanitarian work. Beside of general and tropical medicine as well as surgery, pediatrics, dentistry and care for leper patients also eye diseases are treated in this hospital.

Even today Albert Schweitzer serves as an inspiring example for all generations. 2013 is acclaimed as the year of Albert Schweitzer. It started on January, 13th, Schweitzer’s birthday. Celebrating Schweitzer’s dedication especially this year will keep the memory of the spirit and the achievements of this uniquely dedicated man alive.
