To report application of point & shoot digital camera & smartphones for ophthalmic photography in routine clinical use
Cornea Clinic, Apollo Hospitals, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, India
Both cameras & smartphones were used for external macrophotography of the eye & ocular adnexa, and slitlamp photography of the anterior segment of the eye using simple attachment to the eyepiece of the slitlamp.
External photographs were taken in the macromode. Slitlamp photography could be performed under diffuse, slit beam, & retroillumination. The structures of the angle, the optic disc & surrounding retina could also be photographed using appropriate lenses. Other uses include intraoperative photography & histopathology & microbiology photographs.
Simple compact cameras & smartphones are easy to use in routine clinical practice and provide good quality photographs.
