Purpose:

Our purpose is to present the origin and the relationship between the eye and Alchemy from the antiquity to the medieval times and the modern era.

Setting:

A" Ophthalmologic clinic, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki?

Methods:

We look in the ancient texts, and also in the late sources, reaching the medieval times and going further to our era

Results:

The eye as a symbol, as the dominant organ of the most important sense, the vision, plays a sovereign role in the history of Alchemy

Conclusions:

The Eye is the window of the knowledge, an ascertainment that was well established on the philosophical dimension of alchemy
