Ophthalmology Department Medical Centre of Postgraduate Education Warsaw , Poland Opththalmology Departament Warsaw Medical University, Poland Microsurgery Eye Centre „LASER”, Warsaw, Poland

Methods:

40 patients (22 women and 18 men) between 21 and 35 years of age, with myopia from -1,5D to – 6,0D were included to the study. One eye was treated with EBK technique and the second eye with Epi-LASIK. In all cases the mitomycin C was applied after laser ablation. The therapeutic contact lens was placed on the end of surgery as a routine. Visual acuity was examined before the surgery and at the following intervals of one week (after removal of contact lens) and one month. Time of reepithelialization, Confoscan images and patients’ satisfaction were analyzed.

Results:

Preoperative BCVA was from 0,8 to 1,0 in all eyes. BCVA after contact lens removal was from 0,7-1,0. BCVA on the end of the analyzed period was 0,9-1,0. There were no statistical significant differences between both groups. The reepithelialization time was slightly shorter in EBK group but without statistical significance. Patients’ satisfaction was greater in EBK group.

Conclusions:

EBK technique is safe and efficacious method of treatment of low and moderate myopia.
