The effectiveness of different excimer lasers in refractive surgery

Purpose:

Evaluate the effectiveness of different excimer laser keratomileusis in the performance.

Setting:

Eye Clinic ḋNew VisionṠ, Minsk, Belarus. Pazniak S, Pazniak N, Kovshel N.

Methods:

Achieved 15,000 operations laser keratomileusis in patients aged 18 to 32 years with myopia and hyperopia. Surgery was performed on different types of excimer laser systems: Nidek EC-5000 (Nidek, Japan), Profile (Russia), MEL 80 (ZEISS), SCWIND AMARIS.

Results:

The main criteria of evaluation of the effectiveness of excimer laser refractive goal was to achieve and receive the planned visual acuity. In the early period of observation (up to 1 month) planned refraction and visual acuity was achieved in 99.5% of patients operated on for myopia. In all of excimer lasers to the end of 3 months of follow-up, a number of patients there was a decrease resulting figures. In this regard, the most important criteria, we chose the number dokorrektion postoperatively. When performing surgery for myopia on the Nidek EC-5000 their number was 12.5%, an excimer laser Profile - 32.3%, for MEL 80 - 10.1%, on an excimer laser SCWIND AMARIS - 8,5%.

Conclusions:

Excimer laser correction is a safe procedure when performing any type of excimer laser, but the end result is apparently influenced by the technical characteristics of a model of excimer laser installation.
