To evaluate the cataract incidence and progression after glaucoma filtration surgery (FS) in patients with advanced primary open-angle glaucoma (APOAG).
Department of Ophthalmology, Centro Hospitalar e Universitário de Coimbra Hospital Geral e Hospital Pediátrico, Portugal.
Retrospective observational study included 50 eyes of 46 APOAG patients underwent FS between 2005 and 2011.
The incidence and progression of cataract was statistically significant (SS) (p<0,05). The cataract surgery need was 32% 11,2ḟ8 months after FS and showed SS association with old age and mitomycin C.
Patients with APOAG undergoing glaucoma filtration surgery are at increased risk for the development and progression of cataract. Higher rates of cataract are seen with the use of MMC during FS.
