Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the safety and efficacy of simultaneous Corneal Collagen Cross Linking (CXL) with Intra Corneal Ring Segments (Intacs) in patients with Post Lasik ectasia.

Setting:

Prospective case series of patients with post lasik ectasia undergoing same day CXL with Intacs at Centre for Sight New Delhi.

Methods:

Intacs channels were created with the help of Femtosecond Laser and CXL was performed with the conventional epithelium-off method in one sitting. Details of UCVA, Refraction and BCVA, Topography (Pentacam) were documented preoperatively and at post-op 3, 6 and 12 months.

Results:

16 eyes of 15 patients underwent same day CXL with Intacs. Mean Age was 28+/-5.08 years. Minimum follow up was 6 months (range 6-18 months). A mean fall of 3.0 +/-2.5 D of spherical equivalent at last follow up was seen. Average Sim K pre-op was 45.42 +/- 4.13 D which reduced to 42.50+/-4.50 D. Average K Max pre-op was 54.78+/-3.94 D which reduced to 49.0+/-3.5D post-op. No intra or post-op complications were noted in our series.

Conclusions:

Simulataneos CXL+ Intacs is an effective and safe tool to manage post lasik ectasia. Has a synergistic effect in stabilizing the disease progression as well as optically rehabilitating the patient.
