Comparison between aspheric and aspherotoric elevation maps in normal and keratoconic eyes using placido Scheimpflug camera

Purpose:

To detect the difference between aspheric and aspherotoric elevation maps using placid –schiemflug camera in normal and keratoconus patients.

Setting:

Sohag University Hospital, Egypt

Methods:

960 eyes from 500 patients undergoing screening for keratorefractive surgery were included. Placido-schiemflug pictures (Sitius, CSO, Italy) were examined for anterior and posterior elevation maps using the aspheric and aspherotoric float.

Results:

120 keratoconic eyes showed weak correlation between both the aspheric and aspherotoric floats in the posterior elevation maps. While in the 840 normal eyes there was a strong correlation in both anterior and posterior elevation maps

Conclusions:

The use of aspherotoric fitting surface gives more data in eyes with ectatic pathology and its use is mandatory in screening.
