Intracuring: first application on the human eye in changing corneal curvature

Purpose:

To report the effect of intracuring method in the human eye which was previously described in sheeps eyes.

Setting:

Birinci Eye Hospital. Istanbul/Turkey

Methods:

The ""Intracuring procedure"" explains intrastromal polymerization. In this technique intrastromal tunnel created by femtosecond laser and dental flowable composites used to fill the tunel. Pressing on the cornea was performed for the flattenning of the cornea during polymerization. A 20 year old female with advanced keratoconus on the left eye underwent Intracuring procedure before keratoplasty.

Results:

After intrastromal polymerization mean keratometry decreased from 66,3 D to 62,2 D and maximum keratometry decreased from 81,7 D to 77,50 D. Anterior elevation in the thikness area decreased from 79 micron to 45 micron. All keratoconus indeces showed decrease postoperatively.

Conclusions:

Intracuring technique showed effective reduction of the corneal curvature in the keratoconus eye.
