To report clnical and histopathological features of conjunctival limbal tumors in Western Mexico in a 1 year period
Hospital San José Para Enfermos de la Vista A.C. Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico
We reviewed the files of every patient who underwent limbal tumor resection in our hospital including only the ones with a histological report and photographic data.
17 patients were diagnosed with histological findings of limbal tumors, we found 1 patient diagnosed with melanoma. 3 patients diagnosed with high grade intraepitelial neoplasia and the other 12 patients with benign pathologies.
There is a high prevalence of limbal tumors in our area, more than reported in the literature. The majority of this tumors are benign however given the time frame, the incidence of Melanoma is algo higher than described in the literature. The reasons for this remains to be disclosed.
