Topical anaesthesia is the routine technique and first choice for lamellar keratoplasty procedure

Purpose:

To determine the safety and efficacy of topical anesthesia for Pacymetry Assested lamellar Keratoplasty (PALK) – SHWIND System

Setting:

Dr Haifa Eye Hospital

Methods:

Aprospective study of topical anesthesia tetracaine hydrochloride 1% was used for selected 15 keratoconus eyes of 15 patients undergoing PALK system lamellar keratoplasty. Verbal pain scale (VPS, 0-3) was recorded preoperatively, intraoperatively (after laser application ,and after placing 16 interrupted sutures), and postoperatively (1 hour postoperatively, over night pain) keratoconus keratoconus

Results:

The mean intraoperatively VPS score was (0) in all cases, and mean score of +1.5 in 7 cases( 46% ) post operatively.

Conclusions:

Topical anesthesia found to be the technique of choice in all cases of PLAK system keratoplasty. It is safe, efficient, and cost effective
