South African results of astigmatic keratotomy in post-keratoplasty patients with the IntraLase IFS 150 laser

Purpose:

The purpose is to evaluate the efficacy of the Intralase IFS 150 femtosecond laser in post keratoplasty astigmatism.

Setting:

Tygervalley Eye and Laser Centre, Cape Town , South Africa

Methods:

Intrastromal astigmatic keratomy is done in an ambulatory setting under topical anaesthesia with the IFS 150 Intralase laser in post keratoplasty patients. The Hanna nomograms were used. Best corrected acuity , k readings and pentacams pre and post op were studied and recorded. Complications were recorded.

Results:

Visual outcome and results are presented.

Conclusions:

The Intralase offers an alternative method which is non invasive . The rehabilitation is remarkably shorter than modified type incisional keratotomy and safer. Most patients had improved visual acuity.
