Results of CustomVue cross-linking with the CustomVue excimer laser (Visx) in keratoconus patients

Purpose:

To evaluate the efficacy of crosslinking directly after wavefront guided photorefractive keratectomy with the Customvue (Visx ?) in keratoconus patients in the South African population.

Setting:

Tygervalley Eye and Laser Centre, Cape Town

Methods:

Customvue crosslinking done in an ambulatory setting under topical anaesthesia with the Visx customvue laser(Visx) in keratoconus patients. Wavescans and pachymetry were done. Best corrected visual acuity was measured and the k readings pre and post op. Pentacams were recorded pre and post operatively. Complications were recorded. Epithelium was removed manually, customvue customised excimer photo-ablation was done directly before crosslinking. Mitomycin C is used and cold frozen BSS irrigation followed. This was followed by Riboflavin and hypotonic riboflavin used, followed by 30 minutes crosslinking with the UV-X ?? Illumination System Version 1000.

Results:

Visual results at 12 weeks is recorded. Pre and post op best corrected vision and pre and post operative K readings were recorded.

Conclusions:

Customvue crosslinking gives improved postoperative visaul outcomes.
