Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate clinical outcome of modified Big Bubble DALK in management of PMCD with contact lens intolerance.

Setting:

Cornea Clinic, Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad, India

Methods:

Prospective, non-randomized, interventional case series. In modified DALK surgery, Descemet Membrane separation was limited to central 7mm cornea. Donor cornea size was 9 -11 mm.

Results:

6 eyes of 4 patients, (mean age 47.7 years) underwent surgery. Mean follow up 17.3 months. UCVA & BSCVA improved from 20/320 & 20/60 preoperatively to 20/60 & 20/25 postoperatively. Average keratometry & astigmatism values were 42.8 + 2.7 & 3.4 + 1.67 diopters postoperatively. ECD at last follow up was noted to be 2578 +/- 127 cells/mm2

Conclusions:

Modified Big Bubble DALK appears to be safe & effective to manage PMCD with contact lens intolerance
