Mini patch graft for eccentric corneal perforation with iris prolapse: a new surgical protocol

Abstract Details



Purpose:

To re-innovate a practical method for management of eccentric corneal perforation with iris prolapse.

Setting:

Kasr El Ainy hospital, Cairo University,Egypt.

Methods:

16 years old male, with resistant corneal ulcer in right eye for three weeks, presented with eccentric corneal perforation with iris prolapse, formed AC and UCVA of 0.4. A three millimeters corneal patch , prepared from tectonic graft used for Boston keratoprosthesis( Kpro type I )transplantation for another patient ; was used to seal the perforation , with eight interrupted bites of 10/0 nylon suture

Results:

First day postoperatively, the patient with mini-patch graft had completely coapted wound , reposited iris , quiet anterior chamber , and improved UCVA to 0.5, sutures were removed after 9 months with BCVA of 0.9 and no recurrence of infection.

Conclusions:

Mini –patch graft is an effective and safe treatment modality for eccentric corneal perforation with iris prolapse.
