Abstract Details

Purpose:

To analyze the application of bioptics in patients with age-related cataract.

Setting:

Republican Ophtalmological cener, Belarus, Minsk.

Methods:

Phacoemulsification was performed to the patients with high degrees of ametropia and age-related cataract. Patients were divided into 2 groups. In 1-st group (5 patients) FemtoLASIK (IntraLase™ FS60 femtosecond laser and STAR S4 IR™ eximer laser) was performed after cataract extraction and toric IOL impantation to eliminate the residual spherical component. In group 2 (4 patients) with multifocal IOL implantations, the residual astigmatism was eliminated by FemtoLASIK.

Results:

All patients remained satisfied after surgical intervention. Emmetropia was achieved in 95%. Uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) 20/20 was in 57% of cases. And 47% of the remained patients had amblyopia of different degrees. Terms of the full rehabilitation period consisted 6 month.

Conclusions:

Bioptics is an effective method to achieve best optical result after the extraction of age-related cataract. No financial disclosure.
