Triamcinolone acetate and cefuroxime in phacoemulsification

Purpose:

To evaluate intracameral injection of triamcinolone acetate and Cefuroxime in phacoemulsification

Setting:

Department of Ophthalmology and Optometry, Medical Faculty Masaryk University, St. Anne Hospital, Brno, Czech Republic

Methods:

1000 eyes were treated by intracameral injection of 1,25 mg Triamcinolone acetate and 1 mg Cefuroxime after uncomplicated phacoemulsification. 1000 eyes were treated combination of topical antibiotics and corticosteroid. We evaluate visual acuity, intraocular pressure, inflammatory signs and intraocular status.

Results:

The both methods effectively control postoperative inflammatory reaction

Conclusions:

Triamcinolone acetate and Cefuroxime were sufficiently effective in controlling postoperative inflammatory reaction. We can avoid topical corticosteroidsá¹€ administration after phacoemulsification.
