Primary posterior capsulorhexis: effective, safe practice prevention of posterior capsular opacification (PCO) and maintain high visual functions

To perform the efficacy and safety of primary posterior capsulorhexis after phacoemulsification and IOL implantation for the prevention of PCO formation.

In the period 2011 - 2012, there were 270 phacoemulsification performed using the MICS technology. All patients during surgery after implantation MI - 60 (B§L) under the lens carried back capsulorhexis diameter 3.0 - 4.5 mm.


All patients after surgery had a high visual acuity. According to the Optical coherence tomography (OCT), a month after the operation, dense adhesion posterior capsule and anterior hyaloid membrane to the back of the IOL. In the late post operative period no patient was no evidence of PCO. Central parts of the retina also remained unchanged.


One-stage primary posterior capsulorhexis after FEC and IOL implantation using MICS technology is an effective method of prevention of PCO and maintain high visual function in early and late post operative period.
