Abstract Details

Purpose:

To compare the rise of Intra Ocular pressure in two groups of patients undergoing Cataract surgery with and without the use of Ocular Viscosurgical Devices

Setting:

Krishna Eye Centre, Mumbai, India

Methods:

100 patients undergoing Cataract surgery were randomly divided in two groups of 50 each. In Group A, Inta Ocular Lens was implanted under the cushion of Viscoelastic agents. In group B, no Viscoelastic agent was used and the Lens was Hydroimplanted under the constant flow of BSS through an anterior chamber mantainer. All patients were examined at 1 hour and 24 hours interval and their Intra Ocular pressure was recorded by Applanation tonometry

Results:

One hour post operative recording of Intra ocular pressures didnot show a significant difference in the rise of IOP in the two groups. However,at the end of 24 hours, Group A patients in whom Viscoelastic agents were used recorded a higher rise in Intra ocular pressure as compared to Group B, in whom lens was impalnted without viscoelastic agents. The difference was statistically significant

Conclusions:

Hydroimpalntation of IOLs is a safe and simple technique, especially in patients of Glaucoma undergoing Cataract surgery
