Abstract Details

Purpose:

To demonstrate the advantages of a new design pupil expander on cadaver eye.

Setting:

Tertiary Eye Care Centre in New Delhi, India

Methods:

The new design is a modification of Malyugin ring in respect to the opening of the coils at the four corners of the squire device. All the four corners are provided with a coil of thread in such a way that, at no corner the thread crosses over in vertical axis. This ensures that the coils on any given side open in the same plane and there is no pinching of pupil margin during its use, as against the Malyugin pupil expander where the thread crosses over at every coil leading to a possibility of damage to the pupil margin during insertion and removal. The device was tested on cadaver eye.

Results:

A good papillary dilation was obtained without damage to the pupil margin.

Conclusions:

The new design Pupil Expander can be a useful device for per-operative use.
