To evaluate safety and efficacy of phakic implant for the treatment of leukocoria in a case of white cataract in a blind eye.
CT Eye Institute Belo Horizonte Brazil
A black PMMA phakic implant was customized to be implanted in a 22-year old white female. It had an overall length of 12.8 mm, optic diameter of 6.5 mm, haptic-optic angulation of 8 degrees. The implant had a thickness of 0.2 mm, a convex/concave profile with anterior curvature radius of 10.4 mm and a posterior curvature radius of 10.2 mm, the latter resembling the one of the crystalline lens.
Implantation in the sulcus was uneventful and leukocoria was totally blocked rendering extreme satisfaction to the patient.
Phakic black PMMA implant can be inserted in the sulcus to cosmetically correct leukocoria from white cataract.
