Discuss the differences in acceptance and satisfaction after implantation of different multifocal lenses in females and males.
Day Clinic Eye department, Private clinic Rau Cham
We evaluate and compare the satisfaction of man and woman after the implantation of various multifocal Tecnis,Opti-Vis,Lentis Mplus and Fine Vision in our studies from 1999-2011 in 484 eyes of 242 patients.
In a study performed between September 2004 and August 2009, we implanted the Tecnis multifocal diffractive lens into 80 eyes of 40 patients. The uncorrected far vision was 0.90, intermediate 0,62,the near 0,85. 9%were not satisfied , 8% men, where of 6% complained of poor intermediate vision, 1 % of halos and glare. Opti Vis was implanted in 48 eyes of 24 patients. The UCVA was 0,76,for intermediate 0,68 and 0,76for near. 20 % were not satisfied,10 % women due to poor vision in the near, ,10% men,2% poor near vision, 8% because of glares and halos . From November 2009 to October 2011 we implanted in 120eyes of 60 patients asymmetric LentisM plus. The UCVA for distance was 0.88.for intermediate 0,64 for near 0,76.. 8% were not satisfied 6% woman due to poor near vision,2%man because of glare and halos From October 2010 -February 2012 we implanted Fine Vison in the 44 eyes of 22 patients. UCVA results were for distance 0,74, for intermediate 0,82, for near 0,88. 8% all men were not satisfied because of glares and halos.
In our studies higher patient satisfaction was achieved among female patients by implanting diffractive (Tecnis) and trifocal Fine Vision. The new asymetric lentis M plus achieved even better satisfaction in male patients. Taking gender differences into account as a factor for patient acceptance allows you to optimize patient satisfaction after the implantation of MF IOL.
