Abstract Details

The aim of this paper is to present the effect of observational study of the topical Ectoin Eye Drops in patients with Allergic Conjunctivitis symptoms

Department of Ophthalmology, University Clinical Center, Medical University of Silesia, Katowice, Poland

In this observational study, data on the efficacy, effects on quality of life and tolerability of the topical Ectoin Eye Drops in patients with Allergic Conjunctivitis symptoms. 60 eyes in 30 patients with the diagnosis of conjunctivitis were included in this study with a treatment duration of 14-18 days. At each visit, the physician examine patient in slit lamp and checked for adverse events. To investigate effects on quality of life patients were asked to fill out the version of McMonnies questionnaire

After fourteen days of treatment with ectoine eye drops ocular symptoms decreased significantly. A strong reduction of symptom severity was shown for the parameters OSDI (28,4 % reduction), McMonnies questionnaire (15% reduction) and degree of redness in conjunctivitis (1 point degree). Furthermore, the analysis of individual symptoms to investigate the strength of effect after fourteen days of medication intake showed significant improvement for itching, lachrymation and redness of eyes. Importantly, tolerability results were good in group of patients, and a very low number of adverse events supported this observation.

The treatment resulted in a clear improvement in the quality of life. The ectoine eye drops seem to be equally effective the treatment of ocular conjunctivitis symptoms
