Abstract Details

To report visual outcomes and recurrence patterns of excimer laser phototherapeutic keratectomy (PTK) for corneal stromal dystrophies.

Instituto de MicrocirugĂa Ocular, Barcelona

Retrospective case report of 2 patients with stromal dystrophy suffering from photophobia, pain and decrease of best correct visual acuity (BCVA) for recurrent corneal erosion without any previous surgical treatment. They underwent PTK without complications. BCVA, presence of mild or significant recurrence, and time of recurrence were evaluated after the surgery.

Two eyes of 2 patients were included. PTK was performed. One 40 year-old male patient presented lattice corneal dystrophy and one 39 year-old female patient presented granular dystrophy for more than 10 years. No complications were reported during the surgery. The postoperative improvement of the mean visual acuity (VA) was 0.7. There was no recurrence 1 year after the PTK.

PTK was an effective, safe, and minimally invasive procedure for patients with anterior stromal dystrophy in terms of recurrence and visual outcomes.
