Abstract Details

Purpose:

To analyze the visual outcomes and complications of the Medennium posterior chamber phakic intraocular lens implantation (MPL) in patients with extremely high myopia

Setting:

Blue Eye” Centro di Chirurgia Oculare, Milano, Italy, “International Center for Ophthalmology”, Moscow, Russia

Methods:

We reviewed 102 myopic eyes undergoing MPL implantation in which refractive errors ranged from -10.0 to -32.0 diopters (D). The mean follow-up period was 26.28±10.44 months. Autorefractometry, uncorrected distance visual acuity (UCVA), best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), optical biometry, intraocular pressure (IOP), OCT Visante, corneal endothelial cell (CEC) loss were measured

Results:

The mean SE changed from -16.75±6.11D to -1.25±0.82. The UCVA improved from 1.63±6.25 to 0.32±0.45. BCVA changed from 0.32±0.45 to 0.21±0.16. The mean distance between Crystalline lens and MPL 362,44±91 µm. No statistically CEC loss was induced by the lens implantation. No induced cataract, glaucoma, or inflammation were observed

Conclusions:

The visual outcomes of the MPL implantation show efficacy, predictability and stability of results even in eyes with extremely high myopia
