Abstract Details

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the visual and functional outcomes after cataract surgery with implantation of multifocal toric intraocular lens (IOL).

Galway Clinic, Ireland

This prospective study was conducted on 57 eyes belonging to 31 patients from June 2015 till May 2016. The measurable outcomes reported include visual acuity, post operative refraction, spectacle need and patient satisfaction.

The mean pre-operative BCVA was 0.141 logMAR and the mean post-operative BCVA was 0.0125 logMAR. 60% of patients were completely spectacle independent and 32% required glasses for reading but the vast majority were in dim lighting conditions.

Implantation of multifocal toric IOL in patients with cataract and corneal astigmatism provided excellent distance and near visual outcomes, predictability of the refractive results and good optical performance, allowing patients to achieve spectacle independence.
