Abstract Details

Purpose:

To assess the efficacy, predictability, and safety of LASEK eye surgery with aspheric ablation with MMC on the corneal flap in myopia correction

Setting:

Medical center 'Noviy Zir' Ukraine, Dnipropetrovs'k

Methods:

15 eyes with myopia from-1.0 D to 7.0 D(mean sphere: -3.13+/-1.58 D) astigmatism from 0,5 D to 2,5 D (-0.69 + / -0.77 D) were enrolled. All eyes underwent treatment with LASIK eye surgery with aspheric ablation of the cornea on SCHWIND AMARIS 500 excimer laser. The incomplete formation of the flap and decentring of the cut took place during the formation of the corneal flap by microceratome «Carriazo-Pendular» headed 110 µm. Eye has been studied for 6 month. LASEK eye surgery with aspheric ablation with MMC 0,02% on corneal flap was conducted on average, 6 months after the flap formation with stabilized autorefractor results and keratotopography pattern. Twelve-month postoperative outcomes are reported

Results:

At a month postoperative, 81% of eyes had refraction within +/-0.50 D. And 96% of eyes had it after 3 months. Uncorrected visual acuity was 20/20 or better in 93% of eyes after a month. . And 98% of eyes had it after 3 months. Accordingly, the 7% of eyes after 1 month and 2% of the eyes after 3 months had 1-2 lines lost of best spectacle-corrected visual acuity. Postoperative corneal opacity (HAZE) was not observed in any case. Photopic and mesopic contrast sensitivity did not change.

Conclusions:

LASEK eye surgery with aspheric ablation with MMC on the corneal flap for myopia using the SCHWIND AMARIS 500 excimer laser is safe, efficacious, predictable, and maintains visual quality. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
