Abstract Details

Purpose:

Evaluate usefulness of Sulcoflex toric lens implantation for correction of ametropia in patients with previous penetratring keratoplasty (PKP)

Setting:

Helsinki University Eye Hospital, Helsinki, Finland

Methods:

Four eyes (3 patients) with prior PKP and moderate to high astigmatism were evaluated after undergoing implantation of the Sulcoflex toric IOL (Rayner Intraocular Lens Ltd) to correct residual spherical equivalent (SphEq) and astigmatic error. Best corrected distance visual acuity (BCDVA) (logMAR scale) and manifest refraction astigmatism were studied pre- and postoperatively.

Results:

Mean follow-up was 128±92 days (range 38-245 d). Mean BCDVA was 0.3 ± 0.2 preoperatively and 0.4±0.1 postoperatively. Preoperative mean (SphEq) was -4.1±2.5 diopters (D) and -2.75±2.47 D postoperatively. Pre- and postoperative astigmatic error was +7.3±2.6 D and +4.5±1.1 D respectively. One patient developed a corneal rejection 1 month after Sulcoflex implantation.

Conclusions:

Implantation of the Sulcoflex IOL in patients with previous PKP seems to be an effective option to treat moderate to high postoperative ametropia after PKP. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
