Abstract Details

Purpose:

Long term clinical evaluation of a segmental refractive multifocal intraocular lens (MIOL) with a near addition of +3.00 D.

Setting:

University Hospital Heidelberg, Department of ophthalmology, IVCRC

Methods:

In a long term study the LENTIS Mplus and Mplus toric (Oculentis, Germany) was implanted in 34 eyes of 18 patients at the University eye hospital of Heidelberg. Uncorrected and corrected distance visual acuity (UDVA/CDVA), near visual acuity (UNVA/CNVA), and patient satisfaction (questionnaire) were evaluated. The Salzburg reading desk (SRD) was used to analyze unilateral and bilateral uncorrected and corrected reading acuity, reading distance and reading speed at near and intermediate distance.

Results:

Postoperatively the median UDVA was 0.08 logMAR (range: 0.24 to -0.08 logMAR), the median CDVA 0.01 logMAR (range: 0.14 to -0.20 logMAR). The median UNVA was 0.12 logMAR (range: 0.36 to -0.08 logMAR) and the median CNVA was 0.03 logMAR (range: 0.32 to -0.14 logMAR). The median uncorrected reading acuity measured with the SRD for near distance was 0.18 logMAR (range: 0.47 to -0.03 logMAR). The median uncorrected reading acuity for intermediate distance was 0.22 logMAR (range: 0.41 to 0.07 logMAR).

Conclusions:

The Lentis Mplus and Mplus toric provides good functional results and a high percentage of patient satisfaction. Even in the intermediate distance the subjective results were satisfying.
