Abstract Details

Purpose:

The true polycoria is an extremely rare disease according to our knowledge. Our aim is to report the surgical treatment of a case of true polycoria.

Setting:

Department of Ophthalmology, Péterfy Sándor Street Hospital and Outpatient Department and National Traumatogy Institute Budapest, Hungary.

Methods:

Middle-aged caucasian woman came to our outpatient department suffering from monocular diplopy on her left eye. In the background of her symptoms we found true polycoria with intact sphincter muscles in each of her pupils by slit lamp examination. BCVA was 20/20 on her right eye and 20/25 on her left eye. No any other pathological finding was detected. Neither myosis nor amblyopia was detected. A simple iridotomy of the muscular tissue between the two spihincters was performed through a clear corneal incision under topical anesthesia (propacaine+lidocaine). The patient was administered with levofloxacin + dexamethason local therapy, for a two-week period.

Results:

The patient's complaints resolved for the first postoperative day, and has not been reoccurred in the last 9 month period.

Conclusions:

Patients suffering from monocular diplopy surgical iridotomy between the two pupils can be the cure in case of true polycoria. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
