Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the effectiveness of small incision lenticul extraction (SMILE) in high myopia

Setting:

Refractive Surgery Department of Beyoglu Eye Research and Education Hospital

Methods:

In this prospective study, 18 patients (26 eyes) with high myopi (>6.00D) myopia were chosen to be performed SMILE procedure randomly. These patients were followed up at 1 month 6 months and 12 months postoperatively and were examined for uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), manifest refraction, corneal topography

Results:

LogMAR uncorrected and corrected distance visual acuity was -0.15 ± 0.12, -0.18 ± 0.08 in the SMILE group 12 months postoperatively. In the SMILE groups 12 months postoperatively 100% of eyes were within 0.5 D of the targeted spherical equivalent correction. Changes of 0.05 ± 0.25 D occurred in manifest refraction from 1 month to 12 months in the SMILE groups. No clinically significant complications occurred in the SMILE group.

Conclusions:

The SMILE procedure is good at the safety, efficacy, predictability and stability for the correction of high myopia FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
