Abstract Details

Purpose:

To investigate the impact of allergic rhinoconjunctivitis on cornea and lens densitometry, pachymetry, and anterior chamber depth in children.

Setting:

Pamukkale University Medical School, Ophthalmology Department, Denizli, Turkey

Methods:

Fifty four patients who had allergic rhinoconjunctivitis (study group) and 54 healthy children (control group) were recruited in this prospective, cross-sectional, and comparative study. Cornea and lens densitometry, pachymetry, and anterior chamber depth measurements were taken with the Scheimpflug imaging system.

Results:

The mean age of the children in the study group was 10.4 ± 2.3 years, while it was 10.5 ± 2.3 years in the control group (p=0.80). The lens densitometry and ACD parameters were similar between the groups (p>0.05), while cornea densitometry and pachymetry were significantly higher in the study group (p<0.05).

Conclusions:

Cornea is affected in allergic rhinoconjunctivitis in the aspects of densitometry and thickness, while anterior chamber and lens are not influenced. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
