Abstract Details

To evaluate postcataract surgery endophthalmitis rates in relation to prophylactic intracameral moxifloxacin administration.

Baskent University Faculty of Medicine, Adana Research and Training Center.

In this retrospective study, 1013 cataract surgery cases with IOL implantation were performed between March 2009 and November 2013 by one surgeon (AP). Each patient received an intracameral injection of 0.05 mL of undiluted 0.5% moxifloxacin due to prophylaxis of postoperative infection.

Mean follow up of 1013 cases was one year (ranging from 2 months to 4 years). The mean age of the patients was 64.2 years (ranging 38 to 99 years). The 617 cases (%58.6) were women. No case of endophthalmitis occurred.

No postoperative endopthalmitis was observed after the intracameral injection of moxifloxacin 0.5% ophthalmic solution at the routine cataract surgery. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
