Abstract Details

To report a case of uniteral recurrent infectious keratitis after simultaneous bilateral laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) and to explore diagnostic, and therapeutic measures

Centro Oftalmológico del Bages Centro Oftalmológico TACIR

A 32-year-old man presented with decreased visual acuity and pain in his right eye 3 days after a bilateral LASIK procedure. Slit-lamp examination showed 3 small corneal infiltrates surrounded by corneal inflammation. The infection cleared after treatment with fortified cefazidime, fortified gentamicin. It was decided to lift and wash corneal flap and interface. A new infíltrate show up after 4 month follow up.

Corneal scraping grew Propionibacterium acnes. The corneal infiltrate resolved after collagen cross-linking treatment was applied following Dresden protocol.

This result indicate that corneal cross linking may be an effective adjuvant therapy in the management of severe infectious keratitis associated with corneal melting FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
