Abstract Details

Purpose:

To Study the efficacy of Accelerated Cross Linking ( 30mw for 3 mins protocol) and changes in higher order aberrations ( HOA)

Setting:

Tertiary Eye Care Centre and Teaching Institute in South India

Methods:

Keratometry, pachymetry, corneal thickness progression index, Corneal Higher order aberrations, Coma, Spherical aberration were measured using Pentacam at baseline, 6 months and 1 year after cross-linking

Results:

Thirty-three eyes of thirty patients underwent accelerated cross-linking (3mw for 30 mins protocol). The mean age of the patients was 22.27 ± 4.67 years The mean Pre-operative keratometry was 47.28 ± 3.61(SD),at 6months was 47.48 ± 3.56 D at one year was 47.52 ± 3.54. Mean Pre-operative pachymetry was 458.79 ± 35.61 µm , at 6 months was 457.39 ± 33.36, at one year was 455.61± 33.60. Corneal thickness progression index was 1.93 ± 0.94, at 6 months was 1.82 ± 0.69, at one year was 1.81 ± 0.69. Mean pre-operative corneal higher order aberrations was 5.77 ± 4.07, at 6 months was 4.58 ± 2.88, at one year was 4.28 ± 3.71. Mean coma aberration was-1.74 ± 1.36 pre-operatively, at 6 months was -1.99 ± 1.37 and at one year was -2.05 ± 1.51 which was statistically not significant.Mean Spherical aberration pre-operatively was 0.72 ± 1.81, at 6 months was -0.15 ± 1.90 at one year was -0.16± 1.54 . There was no statistically significant change in corneal higher order aberrations wheras the keratometry and corneal thickness was stable over a period of 1 year. There was no loss in BCVA more than two lines in any of the patients.

Conclusions:

Accelerated cross-linking is an effective procedure in preventing keratoconus progression and inducing no change in the higher order aberrations FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
