Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the refractive outcome and topographic changes after femtosecond assisted intracorneal rings implantation followed by corneal crosslinking for keratoconus after 3 months

Setting:

International eye hospital, Cairo, Egypt

Methods:

twenty eyes (14 patients) of keratoconic patients underwent femtosecond assisted intrastromal implantation with KERATACx Plus&trade Corneal rings using Alcon /Wavelight FS200 femtosecond laser system followed by corneal collagen cross-linking with riboflavin/ ultraviolet A irradiation. Thinnest pachymetry was 400 microns at least and steepest K was less than 62D

Results:

The mean preoperative SE was -8.25+/-3.32 (-11.5 to -5) improved to -4.375+/-1.84 (-7 to -2) which was statistically significant The CDVA improved in all cases with 0% of eyes lost any line and stability reached after 3 months with no further progression of the keratoconus was detected following CXL Follow up mean was 12.7 months (6 to 24)

Conclusions:

Intracorneal ring segment implantation followed by Crosslinking is a safe and effective treatment strategy for selected keratoconus cases Further follow up is recommended FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
