Abstract Details

To report the incidence of opacification of the IOL after DSEK

Academic ophthalmology clinic

Retrospective case series: all DSEK's between 2003 and 2013 were included. In 2008 the first patient presented with visual loss as a result of opacification of the IOL in our clinic. The opacification appears to be a result of calcification of the IOL.

160 eyes were operated on. The opacification was seen in 8 eyes (5%), and was discovered between 4 and 24 months after DSEK. 3 Eyes received extra insufflation of air 1 to 14 days postoperatively because of a partly detached donor. In 4 Eyes a lens change was performed.

Opacification of the IOL can be a vision threatening late complication after DSEK and was seen in 1 of 20 eyes. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
