Abstract Details

To evaluate the safety and efficacy of Collagen Cross Linking (CXL) by Riboflavin and Ultra violet light for symptomatic relief in bullous keratopathy.

Medical Research Foundation, 18, College Road, Nungambakkam, Chennai 600 006 India

12 eyes of bullous keratopathy with guarded visual prognosis requiring only symptomatic relief were prospectively analyzed. Standard CXL using riboflavin and ultraviolet light was performed. Follow up was till epithelial healing and 1,3and 6 months postoperatively. Complete ophthalmic examination and central corneal pachymetry (CCP) were performed in all visits.

There was no recurrence of bullae in 11 eyes till the last follow-up. There was no statistically significant change in the CCP before and after treatment. There were no complications.

CXL is effective in preventing recurrence of bullae in bullous keratopathy. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
