Abstract Details

To Introduce LPK for the treatment of corneal pathologies with weakened stroma and healthy endotheliun such as keratoconus

Barranquilla Colombia at Centro oftalmologico Carriazo

LKP was performed in 5 patients with keratoconus. Technique: A pachymetry map was obtained and exported to the Pachymetry Assisted Laser Keratoplasty Software (PALK). The patients were treated with an Excimer Laser guided circular photoablation of 8.0 mm, removing the anterior stroma and leaving a 100 micron stromal bed. Using an interrupted photoablation ring, multiple micro perforations were made at the periphery of the receptor stromal bed. An 8.0 mm donor graft without endothelium was obtained, and sutured to the receptor cornea, using 16 nylon 10 - 0 interrupted sutures

Graft had an excellent coupling with the stromal bed with a uniform and continuous surface between the donor and receptor corneas. At 3 months postoperative UCVA improved from 20/400 to 20/100; BCVA: 20/80 to 20/60. The endothelium cell loss was 10%

LPK is an alternative surgical treatment in patients with Keratoconus FINANCIAL INTEREST: One of more of the authors... receives nonNONEmonetary benefits from a company producing, developing or supplying the product or procedure presented.
