To analyze postoperative outcome and complication rate following cataract surgery after open globe injury

Eye Clinic, University hospital 'Sestre milosrdnice', Zagreb

A retrospective analysis was done of 16 patients with traumatic cataracts due to open globe injury operated between 2011 and 2013. Traumatic cataract was performed as primary and secondary procedure. Lens aspiration or phacoemulsification with intraocular lens implantation was performed in all patients.

In 7 eyes cataract surgery was performed as primary procedure , and in 9 eyes as secondary procedure. Mean follow up was 11 months. Eleven eyes (69%) achived final visual activity of 0,5 or better. Major causes of limited visual activity were central corneal scar and retinal complications.

Primary and secondary traumatic cataract surgery were safely rehabilitated with intraocular lens implantation FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
