Abstract Details

Purpose:

To demonstrate the safety and efficacy of femtolaser assisted phacoemulsification in the management of subluxated cataracts

Setting:

Tertiary Care Eye Hospital

Methods:

2 patients with traumatic subluxated but not decentred cataracts under femtolaser assisted capsulorhexis, nucleus fragmentation and corneal wounds creation. Subsequently the capsular bag was stabilized with capsule tension ring and sutured capsule tension segment, phacoemulsification was performed and an intraocular lens (IOL) was implanted. One of the patients had a toric IOL due to corneal astigmatism. Postoperatively they were examined on slitlamp and ASOCT to find out any tilt of the IOL

Results:

The femtolaser rhexis and nucleus division was complete. This reduced the movement of the lens and stress to the zonules normally seen during manual rhexis and nucleus division, with minimal damage to the existing zonules. Both the patients had well centred intraocular lenses without any tilt and had a best corrected vision of 6/6 6 weeks after surgery

Conclusions:

Femtolaser assisted cataract surgery increases the safety profile in the management of traumatic subluxated cataract FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
