Abstract Details

To assess the post-operative visual outcomes for distance, intermediate and near vision, as well as patient satisfaction in patients undergoing cataract surgery and implantation of the PresbiVision FineVision premium IOL.

Single centre, private ophthalmology clinic; The Tygervalley Eye & Laser Centre in Bellville, Cape Town, South Africa.

32 eyes of 17 patients had cataract surgery with implantation of the PresbiVision FineVision IOL. Eyes with any affection other than cataract were excluded from the study. IOL calculation was done with Holladay II. Post-operative uncorrected visual acuity and best-corrected visual acuity for distance, intermediate and near vision were recorded at 6 weeks post-operatively. A patient satisfaction questionnaire was also recorded 6 weeks post-operatively.

At 6 weeks post-operatively the mean uncorrected distance visual acuity achieved was 0.9, the mean uncorrected intermediate visual acuity was 0.47 and the mean uncorrected near visual acuity was 0.83. The individual assessment of post-operative patient satisfaction revealed that the majority of patients would choose the lens again and recommend it to others. Only one patient found glare and halo's to be a problem at night.

The PresbiVision FineVision multifocal IOL is a safe and effective lens choice to provide good distance, near and intermediate vision with little or no night vision problems. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
