Abstract Details

To report case series of three patients with angular glaucoma in which occurrence of cystoid macular edema (CME) after uneventful cataract surgery was associated with use of latanoprost.

Clinic for Eye Disease 'Prof. dr Ivan Stankovic' University Medical Center 'Zvezdara' Belgrade Serbia

Retrospective review of three patients who had history of latanoprost use and described blurred vision after uncomplicated cataract surgery. CME was revealed by ocular examination and was confirmed by ocular coherent tomography (OCT).

All patients had angular glaucoma and were treated with latanoprost an average of 2,1+0,8 years before the surgery. CME developed 3 to 5 months after the surgery and the decrease of visual acuity was with an average of 3 lines in Snellen chart. All cases of CME resolved upon discontinuation of latanoprost and administration of non steroidal anti-inflammatory agents. Visual acuity improved to baseline in all patients.

This series suggests latanoprost is a significant etiologic factor for the development of postoperative CME after uneventful phacoemulsification. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
