Abstract Details

Purpose:

to show the different methods of correcting of pediatric aphakia in the absence of a posterior capsule, in 20 children aged ranged from 1.5-8 years old. (12 boys 'male', 8 girls 'female')

Setting:

Research Institute of Ophthalmology Hospital.

Methods:

Retrograde study. Medical (contact lens '5 cases') and surgical including implantation of an anterior chamber lens '3 cases' , posterior chamber lens with sclera fixation '6 cases' and posterior chamber lens (sutureless technique) '2 cases' and implantation of an iris claw (Artizan lens '4 cases')

Results:

in developing countries and for economic and other reasons contact lenses are the least successful the other techniques gave similar results although the iris claw lenses seemed to be of promising results . Pediatric pseudo-phakic glucoma occured in 8 cases.

Conclusions:

The correction of pediatric aphakia is still a problem in developing countries , further studies and further research is needed to improve the results and pediatric pseudo-phakic glucoma is the enemy which may inevitably occur. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
