Abstract Details

Purpose:

To determine the comparability of biological measurements obtained with different non-contact instruments in myopes.

Setting:

Beijing Tongren Hospital of Capital Medical University

Methods:

In this prospective study, 250 eyes of 125 myopes were examined with the IOLMaster 500, Lenstar LS900 and Pentacam HR. An experienced operator obtained all the measurements. The analysis of variance were used to analyse among the IOLMaster, Lenstar and Pentacam for keratometry (Kf and Ks), Corneal power vector analysis (J0 and J45), anterior chamber depth (ACD), pupil diameter (PD) and white-to-white distance (WTW), and paired t test were used to analyse between the Lenstar and Pentacam for central corneal thickness (CCT), and between the IOLMaster and Lenstar for axial length (AL). Agreement was determined using the Bland–Altman analysis.

Results:

The Lenstar provided lower values than the Pentacam in CCT, but higher than the IOLMaster in AL. There was statistically significant difference among the IOLMaster, the Lenstar and the Pentacam in PD, WTW. There was a statistical significance among the IOLMaster, the Lenstar, and the Pentacam in PD. There was no statistical significance among the 3 instruments for measuring keratometry, Corneal power vector analysis and ACD. The Bland-Altman analysis showed that no more than 5% points among these instruments was outside 95% LoA for Keratometry, but not for vector data. CCT and AL also reach good agreements.

Conclusions:

In clinical practice, the IOLMaster, the Lenstar and the Pentacam can be used interchangeably for Keratometry measurements but not for vector data. The Lenstar and the Pentacam can be used interchangably for CCT. The IOL Master and the Lenstar can be used interchangably for AL.
