Abstract Details

Purpose:

To compare the refractive outcomes of SMILE and phakic IOL in high myopia (more than -10.00 D)

Setting:

Retrospective comparative study / TRSC international LASIK Center

Methods:

A retrospective chart review of high myopic patients (> -10.00 D) who underwent SMILE (group 1) and phakic IOL (group 2) was conducted. The refractive outcomes including manifest refraction (MR), UDVA, BDVA was measured at 3 month and 1 year respectively.

Results:

480 eyes were included in this study. There was no differences in the pre-operative variables between groups. The mean pre-operative MR was-10.5±1.0 in group1 and-10.6±0.9 in group2.There was 66% in group1 and 72% in group2 achieved UDVA of 20/20 or better at both 3 month and 1 year. The efficacy index was higher in group2 at 3 month and 1 year. The percentage of eyes which gained BDVA 1 line or more was also higher in group2 at both 3 month (56%vs.30%) and 1 year (63%vs.42%). Both groups showed stable refraction up to 1 year.

Conclusions:

The refractive outcomes of phakic IOL may be superior to SMILE in high myopia.
