Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate visual outcomes in high and low contrast and refractive outcomes after diffractive trifocal intraocular lens (IOL) implantation.

Setting:

Bandung Eye Center, West Java, Indonesia

Methods:

This prospective nonrandomized study included consecutive patients undergoing cataract surgery with unilateral implantation of a diffractive trifocal IOL (AT LISA tri 839MP, Carl Zeiss Meditec). Distance, intermediate, and near visual outcomes in high and low contrast were evaluated and the refractive outcomes 1 month after surgery

Results:

Fourteen eyes of 13 patients were included; 74% of the patients after surgery showed a spherical equivalent within ±0.50 diopters; 71% of eyes had an uncorrected distance visual acuity of 0.00 LogMAR or better, 64% had an uncorrected intermediate visual acuity of 0.10 LogMAR or better, furthermore 71% of patients achieved uncorrected near visual acuity of 0.10 LogMAR or better. There was significant improvement in uncorrected distance visual acuity, uncorrected intermediate visual acuity, uncorrected near visual acuity in high and low contrast visual acuity measurement.

Conclusions:

Trifocal diffractive IOL implantation seems to provide good results of visual quality for far, intermediate, and near distances.
