Abstract Details

To evaluate higher order aberration data of patients underwent multifocal intraocular lens implantation.

Semmelweis University, Ophthalmology Department, Budapest, Hungary.

30 eyes of 18 patients underwent Medicontur Bi-Flex, while 33 eyes of 18 patients underwent Alcon Restor multifocal intraocular lens implantation at Semmelweis University, Ophthalmology Department between January and November of 2015. Patients were examined by Nidek OPD-scan three months postoperatively.

There was an increase in both groups regarding root mean square higher order aberration (RMS-HOA) values. There were no statistically significant difference between the two groups regarding total-RMS-HOA, cornea-RMS-HOA and internal-RMS-HOA (p=0,203, p=0,378, p=0,186, Mann-Whitney-U-test). Median values of internal higher order aberration proved to be lower in case of Medicontur BiFlex lens implantation group (median±interquartil rangeMedicontur BiFlex: 0,405±0,172, median±interquartil rangeAlcon Restor: 0,473±0,23, p=0,186).

Implantation of multifocal intraocular lenses has an effect on the eye’s higher order aberrations, but no statistically significant difference could be found between the two different type of examined multifocal lenses.
